Rot-Weiß Oberhausen are dreaming of winning the Niederrheinpokal and will face Oberliga side Ratingen 04/19 in the semi-finals. The match has now been scheduled.
In the Regionalliga West, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen will again have nothing to do with promotion this season. This has been clear for a long time, since top-ranked Preußen Münster has played an outstanding season, while RWO’s results have been too inconsistent throughout the season.
But the Kleeblätter still have one big goal – they are determined to win the Niederrheinpokal. “If we could do that, it would be a great season,” said coach Mike Terranova recently.
RWO is already one of the last four teams left in the competition and will host Ratingen 04/19 in the semi-finals. It is now clear when the match will be played: on Saturday, 25 March, at 3 pm. This was announced by the Lower Rhine Football Association (FVN) on Tuesday.
In the second semi-final, regional league team 1. FC Bocholt will host third division team and Niederrheinpokal record winner Rot-Weiss Essen. This match will kick off on Tuesday, 28 March (7 pm).
Lower Rhine Cup 2022/23: Overview of the rounds so far
It is therefore possible that the two rivals from Oberhausen and Essen will meet in the final (3 June). That has already been the case twice. In 2018, RWO won the cup, in 2015 RWE prevailed after a penalty shootout.
“The fact that Essen is also still in the competition and could be waiting in the final spurs you on even more,” said Oberhausen’s Nils Winter after advancing in the quarter-finals against district league team ASV Mettmann. “Everyone knows what kind of games these are. But we still have to do our homework first. “
