Rot-Weiss Essen won the test match against Borussia Dortmund’s U23 team 1-0 at the BVB training ground.
The regional league team of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund tested against Rot-Weiss Essen on Friday (September 5, 2 p.m.) behind closed doors – this time at the request of BVB, also without media representatives – at their home training ground.
The third division team won 1-0, thus “avenging” their 0-1 defeat in the first round of the DFB Cup against the Borussia Dortmund professionals.
Nils Kaiser scored the goal of the day in the 71st minute after a cross from Franci Bouebari. RWE made substitutions at halftime but had to play with ten men from the 70th minute onwards as Gianluca Swajkowski had to leave the field with muscle problems. BVB’s U23 reserve team, which includes former Essen player Joseph Boyamba, also played with one man down from the 77th minute onwards after Anas Mahjoubi was injured.
Daniel Rios, Mike Tullberg’s successor, was satisfied with the test. The BVB II coach said: “That was a very good test. The boys improved with every passing minute. Especially in the second half, we played the way we want to play. We defended courageously up front and also attacked. We had good solutions with the ball and created many scoring chances against a good opponent, especially in the second half. We’ll take these positive findings with us.”
