Tradition is lived. VfL Bochum is preparing for some celebrations.
This year, the Bundesliga football club VfL Bochum celebrates its 175th anniversary. To celebrate this special birthday together with the fans, VfL is planning several activities and events this year.
1848 was the starting signal, so the “1848” in Bochum is not just any year, but something very special. It is the symbol of tradition and history of the club. The month of September is therefore all about the anniversary. On 7 September, VfL and the city of Bochum will open the exhibition “175 Years of VfL – Jerseys, Goals, Football Miracles”.
Exhibits from the entire history of the club will be on display – from the time of its founding to the present day. Blue and white fans have the opportunity to visit the exhibition free of charge from 8 September during the opening hours of the city archive. For six months, it will find a home in Bochum’s city centre. Just one day later, on 9 September, VfL fans can continue celebrating the 175th anniversary at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion. VfL invites you to a big family and hands-on day “anne Castroper”. Not only the football department, but also the entire club with all other sports will be involved.
Of course, the ball will also be rolling on this day. The football highlight in the Ruhr Stadium will be the match between the VfL legends and an Ü40 city selection. This is intended to emphasise the deep bond between the city and the club. The match is scheduled for 3:30 pm. The classic opening of the season, which traditionally takes place in the week before the first competitive match, will therefore be divided up somewhat differently this year. First, head coach Thomas Letsch’s team will play at the Ruhrstadion on 5 August, with more information to follow shortly. There will also be a small supporting programme, and a large autograph session by the licensed players is planned for the Sunday after the match day. The Family and Participation Day on 9 September, which will take place during the international break, is intended as a birthday celebration for “175 years of VfL”, but also forms the second part of this year’s “season opening”.
