The first two games of the 2024 Regionalliga West season have been played. These are the results.
With three catch-up games instead of the originally planned five, the Regionalliga West returned from the winter break on the last weekend in January.
And a better way to start the year than beating SC Paderborn’s reserves could hardly be imagined. In the away game at FC Gütersloh, the ball had not yet been in play for a minute when Joel Vega Zambrano shot the guests into the lead, catching FCG off guard. And just a few minutes later, attacker Moitz Flotho headed the 2-0 for SCP (9′).
An absolute false start for the hosts, who did not wake up from their winter sleep at the beginning, but at least managed to save the 0-2 into the locker room. In the second half, it started with a moment of shock. FCG player Ilias Illig went down after a header duel and needed a long treatment. After a 30-minute interruption, the ambulance was also able to leave – the game could continue. Forecasting wishes a speedy recovery!
After the long break, FCG made an impressive comeback. Ironically, Kevin Freiberger, who came on for the dazed Illig, gave the majority of the 1,100 spectators new hope with his 1:2, but Flotho then made everything clear for the guests with a 3:1.
Fortuna reserve almost frittered away three-goal lead
There was also a quick goal in the game between Fortuna Düsseldorf II and promoted team FC Wegberg-Beeck. At the Paul-Janes Stadium, a winter signing was delighted with a dream debut in the Fortuna shirt: After just five minutes, Davino Knappe, on loan from SC Freiburg II, scored the 1-0 for the hosts. Halfway through the first half, Luis Filipe Monteiro made it 2-0, which was also the half-time score.
Even after the break, the weak away team did not find its way into the game, so Fortuna was able to add again. Seymour Fünger headed the 3-0 (52nd) and finally put his team on the road to victory. But suddenly the Wegbergers came back again. First, Shpend Hasani (58th) scored, before Finn Stromberg scored the 2-3 goal. The Fortunes saved the score over time.
The competitive season also begins for the players of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen at 5:30 p.m., when they face Borussia Mönchengladbach’s reserves. (To the RS live ticker)
