Setback for loan player Pieringer at SC Paderborn.

Marvin Pieringer from FC Schalke 04 is playing a strong season on loan at SC Paderborn. Now, however, the striker is being thwarted.

Schalke striker Marvin Pieringer’s loan move to SC Paderborn has paid off in full so far. The 23-year-old showed outstanding performances at the second-division club, especially in the first half of the season, and is the SCP’s top scorer with twelve goals and eight assists.

The Königsblauen are also likely to follow this development with great interest, as Pieringer is currently set to return in the summer. However, the native of Bad Urach will not be able to put himself in the shop window in the near future.

He suffered a fracture of the ankle and will be out until further notice. Pieringer suffered the injury in the final training session before the match at Holstein Kiel at the weekend (1:1). On Tuesday, his club announced the diagnosis without giving any information on the duration of the absence. That made no sense, explained coach Lukas Kwasniok. “Every single player has a different sensation of pain and a different healing process.”

And that’s not enough for the Paderborn team. Before the start of the hot phase in the promotion race, they will have to do without Pieringer as well as their top scorer Robert Leipertz and midfielder Raphael Obermair.

Leipertz suffered a fracture to his left lateral ankle and a tear to the anterior ligament at the head of his fibula. Obermair dislocated his right shoulder. Kwasniok was combative: “We will give the boys the best possible support. But the injured can also push the team. Now other players will score.”

At least Sebastian Klaas and Kai Klefisch resumed running training on Tuesday after injury breaks.
