Setback for Wattenscheid – ASC 09 Dortmund jumps to the top

The Oberliga Westfalen has a new leader after the 10th match day. But the top teams remain close together.

Slowly but surely, the unpleasant autumn games are beginning, when it rains and the temperatures slowly drop. It was under these circumstances that the 10th match day in the Oberliga Westfalen took place. A few victories provided some warmth.

Leading the way was ASC 09 Dortmund, who beat Concordia Wiemelhausen 4-0 (3-0). Maximilian Podehl scored a hat trick. Even more important, however, is that the victory and the better goal difference have put Aplerbeck at the top of the table.

Behind them is 1. FC Gievenbeck, who won 1-0 at Regionalliga relegation side SV Lippstadt to move ahead of VfL Bochum II.

The second Bochum team in action on Sunday also came away empty-handed. SG Wattenscheid 09 lost 3-4 (1-1) to SV Schermbeck, led by former coach Engin Yavuzaslan. It was their first defeat after two wins and two draws in a row.

Joey Gabriel had put Wattenscheid in the lead (10th minute) before SVS was able to make better use of its chances. An own goal (82nd minute) and a converted penalty deep into stoppage time (103rd minute) gave SGW hope once again. But in the end, it was Schermbeck who celebrated.

The long stoppage time was due to a brawl among the spectators and a lengthy injury break afterwards. You can read the RS live ticker here.

SC Preußen Münster II also continued their goal-scoring form. After the second team of the second division club had already scored eight goals in one half against TuS Bövinghausen last weekend before the game was abandoned, they now scored a total of three against Victoria Clarholz. Once again, Luca Steinfeldt paved the way for a 3-0 win with a brace.

Sportfreunde Siegen drew 1-1 with TuS Ennepetal, while Eintracht Rheine kept their guests at the bottom of the table with a 1-0 win over SpVgg Vreden.

SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl and SC Verl II rounded off the matchday. The visitors won 2-1 after scoring in the 94th minute.

There was a big surprise on Friday evening. TuS Bövinghausen celebrated a victory after last weekend’s match was abandoned. The Dortmund team beat SpVgg Erkenschwick 3-1 to secure their first win of the season.

Rot Weiss Ahlen and Westfalia Rhynern will conclude the matchday on Tuesday (October 15, 8 p.m.). The game had been postponed due to the U20 international match in Ahlen.
