Several offers – Is a world champion going to Saudi Arabia?

Ex-Schalker Julian Draxler does not have a future after his return to Paris Saint-Germain on loan. That could possibly lie in Saudi Arabia.

Several clubs from Saudi Arabia are said to be interested in World Cup winner Julian Draxler. At least that is what a report by Sky says. According to the report, a transfer is not out of the question. His contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs until 2024.

Draxler’s trophy cabinet is impressive. Here is just a selection: World Champion, multiple champion and cup winner in France and DFB Cup winner with FC Schalke. His own share really matters.

It runs like a red thread through the career of the 29-year-old since his departure from the Ruhr region: titles yes, big role no. Since last season, the 29-year-old has also been allowed to call himself Portuguese champion. At Benfica Lisbon, however, Draxler was out of action for almost the entire second half of the season with an ankle injury.

Before that, the offensive player could hardly recommend himself during his loan spell. In his first 18 games for Benfica, he scored only two goals and had no assists. According to the BILD, PSG coach Luis Enrique is not planning on using Draxler. The midfielder is also missing from the club’s squad for the upcoming Asia tour.

Nevertheless, the 29-year-old could be heading to this very continent. The Saudi league is in a buying frenzy. Superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has already been lured with a multi-million offer in the winter, followed by top players such as Karim Benzema from Real Madrid and N’Golo Kanté from Chelsea FC.

One thing is clear: Draxler will move permanently. With only one year left on his contract in the French capital, another loan is not an option. It remains to be seen whether he will opt for a sporting challenge or the princely salary at his prime footballing age. At least he will not really be able to recommend himself to national coach Hansi Flick in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 European Championship in his own country.
