SF Lotte before opener against Großkreutz club: “No normal promoted team”.

On the first matchday of the new season in the Oberliga Westfalen, Sportfreunde Lotte will be guests of TuS Bövinghausen. Lotte’s coach Fabian Lübbers is looking forward to the match.

On the first matchday, Sportfreunde Lotte will face TuS Bövinghausen in the Oberliga Westfalen. Last season, Lotte had to leave the Regionalliga for the Oberliga. Bövinghausen, on the other hand, was promoted from the Westfalenliga to the Oberliga last season.

Fabian Lübbers was brought in as the new head coach to help Lotte achieve direct promotion. But Bövinghausen also wants to make it to the Regionalliga. In an interview with RevierSport, Lübbers gave an outlook on his team’s opening match against the Großkreutz club and explained why TuS is “not a normal promoted team”.

“We are looking forward to the match and are of course eagerly anticipating the start of the season. I think it will be a very interesting match. TuS have great ambitions and the financial possibilities are definitely there with them. In my eyes, they are not a normal promoted team like Dellbrück and Gievenbeck, for example, who just want to stay in the league. Bövinghausen is really different,” explained Lübbers with regard to the opponents at the start of the season.

Lotte do not see themselves as favourites

In the duel between relegated and promoted teams, the roles should obviously be clearly distributed before kick-off. Nevertheless, Lübbers does not see his team as favourites ahead of the season opener. Although they are not intimidated by names like Kevin Großkreutz, Lotte will approach the matter with the necessary respect.

“Bövinghausen has a good team and they have players with a lot of potential. I don’t think we will go into the match as favourites. On the first matchday, no team really knows where it stands. Accordingly, I expect a game between equals. No team has been given anything and everyone is rightly playing at this level,” explained Lübbers.

The Sportfreunde from Lotte will nevertheless try everything to make the opening match a success. According to the coach, they have respect for the Dortmund team, but VfL wants to “trust in their own strengths”. Nowadays, you simply have to have this respect, but on a good day, the Sportfreunde can “beat any opponent.

However, before starting in the Oberliga Westfalen, Lotte will face FC Nieheim in the Westfalenpokal next Wednesday.
