SGS Essen narrowly lose to Eintracht Frankfurt

The Eintracht Frankfurt women’s soccer team continues to be one of the Bundesliga leaders. A narrow win against Essen.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s women’s footballers have consolidated third place in the Bundesliga with a 1:0 (0:0) labor victory against SGS Essen. National player Sara Doorsoun scored in the 62nd minute on Sunday evening to secure a deserved win for the Hessians, who now have 26 points to their name.

In the battle for a Champions League place, Eintracht increased their lead over rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to six points. Coach Niko Arnautis’ team also moved to within three points of league leaders VfL Wolfsburg (29), who can still be overtaken by defending champions Bayern Munich (27) on Monday.

Frankfurt struggled for long stretches of the game against Essen. It was a set-piece that proved decisive. After a corner, a header from striker Laura Freigang initially got stuck in the Essen defense, and Doorsoun put the rebound into the net from a few meters out.
