Catch-up games in the top leagues. SF Siegen missed out on big points, KFC Uerdingen slumped after their win against SSVg Velbert.
In the two top leagues, catch-up games were on the agenda on Wednesday.
In the Oberliga Niederrhein, KFC Uerdingen had to play Cronenberger SC. And after the 1:0 coup at leaders SSVg Velbert, KFC could not confirm their strong performance of the weekend with a 2:3 (0:1) – on the contrary.
Under interim coach Dmitry Voronov, the team went into the dressing room with a 0:1 score. After Alexander Lipinski gave KFC the lead, Niklas Burghard scored shortly before the break to make it 1:0 for the hosts.
After the break, KFC scored – but into their own goal. The 0:2 was the preliminary decision for Cronenberger SC, who could even increase to 3:0 through Shunta Onishi. The two late goals by Maik Odenthal and Kai-Bastian Evers came too late.
CSC are now on 19 points, but with 16 points separating them from the bottom of the Bundesliga, they will probably not be able to avoid the drop into the Landesliga. Uerdingen are stuck in sixth place.
Cronenberger SC’s next match is against Hamborn 07 on Sunday (2 April, 3 pm), while KFC Uerdingen play TSV Meerbusch at home on Saturday (1 April, 6 pm).
In the Oberliga Westphalia, Sportfreunde Siegen had to travel to leaders Preußen Münster II. And Patrick Helmes’ team again made it difficult for a top team of the league for a long time.
On Sunday, Siegen won against Westfalia Rhynern with 1:0, but against Münster they ended up with a 2:3 (1:0) despite a 1:0 lead. The Sportfreunde took the lead after 31 minutes through a goal by Marius Zentler.
After the break, the leaders were awarded a penalty, which Luca Steinfeld converted to equalise. And after 66 minutes it was Steinfeld again who shot the sovereign league leaders into the lead. Can Mehmet Pohl then decided the game with his 3:1. The connection for the Siegen team through a converted penalty by Leandro Fünfsinn came too late.
After the win, Preußen, who are not allowed to move up to the Regionalliga, are eight points ahead of TuS Bövinghausen in second place. Siegen remain in 16th place and are in danger of relegation, although Sportfreunde have played one game less.
Siegen’s next match is at home against Eintracht Rheine on Sunday (2 April, 3 p.m.). Münster will play their top match against FC Gütersloh at the same time.
