Simon Terodde to leave Schalke at end of season

FC Schalke 04 and Simon Terodde are going their separate ways after the current season. The announcement was made by S04 on Wednesday.

Simon Terodde will only play for Schalke until the summer. The striker will not extend his expiring contract. The club made the announcement on Wednesday morning.

“There has been a lot of speculation in the media about my future in recent weeks. This is a topic that neither the club nor I need in these so trend-setting weeks. Therefore, I would like to declare right now that my time at Schalke will definitely end in the summer,” Simon Terodde is quoted as saying. “My time here was incredibly emotional, marked by an incredible number of intense moments that I will remember forever. Now I want to write my last chapter at Schalke with my team-mates – and ultimately say goodbye with the successful class preservation.”

Simon Terodde has worn the royal blue jersey since 2021. He played a significant role in Schalke’s promotion in 2022 by scoring 30 goals, but this season his age is making itself felt. The attacker is already 35 years old. It remains to be seen what will happen to him after the summer.

Peter Knäbel, sports director at Schalke, raves about Simon Terodde. “Everyone knows about my special relationship. In 2021, in a very difficult situation, he made his commitment to Schalke 04 and the mission of re-promotion when hardly anyone believed in it. Only to then, just over a year later, celebrate his return to the Bundesliga as the record goal scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga and become part of FC Schalke 04’s long club history,” Knäbel said in the press release.

The striker had approached the club himself, thereby proving “what an impressive athlete and person he is. To take this step now, in order to contest the last weeks of the season in a liberated and absolutely focused manner – that’s something that not many people do, I’m sure. Simon is very important for our team, and I’m sure he will throw everything in to say goodbye to Schalke 04 as a Bundesliga player. “
