The promotion race in the Oberliga Niederrhein is turning into a neck-and-neck race between Germania Ratingen and KFC Uerdingen due to the countless non-applications for the Regionalliga. In recent weeks, the two teams have been running almost in lockstep – until the most recent matchday.

KFC were allowed to take the lead on Friday evening and managed to do the same in their match against SV Sonsbeck. The 3:2 victory allowed the Krefeld side to move to within one point of their rivals from Ratingen, who host Mülheimer FC 97 at home on Sunday. On paper, this might have seemed like a must-win game, but Germania gave themselves the slip and lost 4:3.
