Uruguay’s capital Montevideo was chosen as the venue for the opening match of the 2030 World Cup.
Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, said in a statement: “In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world as we celebrate the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup together.”
Initially, the 2026 World Cup will take place in North and Central America, namely Canada, Mexico and the United States.
