MSV Duisburg is in danger of falling into the regional league. A new head of sport should help. We discuss this in the fußball inside podcast.
MSV Duisburg are teetering on the brink of the abyss in the 3rd division. After 14 games, the team from Meiderich is bottom of the table with just eight points. Relegation to the Regionalliga West is imminent. In order to avoid this bleak scenario, new players must be signed during the winter break, as the quality of the current squad does not appear to be sufficient to maintain the league.
But who will lure the new players to Duisburg? Following the dismissal of sporting director Ralf Heskamp, chief scout Chris Schmoldt has taken on the role of sporting director on an interim basis. According to information from this editorial team, a new man is to be brought in shortly who should have both charisma and a Duisburg connection.
MSV Duisburg’s preferred candidate is Michael Preetz. The former international was manager at Hertha BSC until 2021 and played for MSV from 1992 to 1994.
But is Preetz the man MSV now needs to turn the Zebras’ fortunes around? Clearly “no”, believe our experts Christian Brausch and Martin Herms. Together with presenter Timo Düngen, both editors discuss the crisis at MSV Duisburg in our podcast “fußball inside” from minute 24 onwards and, before that, the soaring fortunes of local rivals Rot-Weiss Essen. Have fun listening in!
