The TVD Velbert missed out on the jump to second place in the Oberliga Niederrhein. Against SV Sonsbeck, the third-placed team conceded the 2:2 in injury time.
On Saturday, a match of the 19th matchday in the Oberliga Niederrhein was also on the schedule. The match between SV Sonsbeck and third-placed TVD Velbert was brought forward. In the end, SV Sonsbeck managed a 2-2 draw at the last second.
With seven unbeaten league games in a row behind them, the Velbert team travelled to the promoted team, which bowed out of the Niederrheinpokal on the weekend off from the Oberliga. Against Ratingen, Sonsbeck conceded a 0:3 at home after a botched opening phase, which lasted only eleven minutes.
And things also went against the home side at the start of the game against the TVD, with the visitors again getting off to the better start. Fabio di Gaetano (9th) needed less than ten minutes to put Velbert in the lead. And further underlined Velbert’s status as a top team by increasing it to 2:0 (30th) – at the same time the half-time score in Sonsbeck.
In the second half, Sonsbeck started much better. Klaus Keisers (52.) gave the promoted team new hope with the 1:2. For a long time it looked as if the visitors would be able to hold on to the lead, but in the last second SV Sonsbeck actually managed to equalise through Philipp Elspaß (90.+8).
With the late draw, TVD Velbert missed the jump to second place. The promoted team from Sonsbeck remains above the bottom of the table with 24 points.
