Spain won the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Furia Roja beat the Lionesses, the European champions from England, 1 : 0 in a thrilling match. The Spanish women had never reached a World Cup final before.
Spain misses penalty
Shortly before the end of normal time, Alex Greenwood was on the ground for a long time after being hit on the head by Salma’s knee.

Olga scores the goal for Spain
In the 29th minute of the final, Olga Carmona scored the first goal. The 23-year-old winger from Seville is only 1m60 tall. Olga Carmona has played for Real Madrid since 2020 and won the 2018 European Championship with the U19 national team in the final against Germany.
Protest against Putin on the pitch
During the final, an incident occurred just before the first and only goal when a man wearing a T-shirt against Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and his war of aggression against Ukraine ran onto the pitch. “Stop Putler” was his message. The young man was taken away by security guards.
