The MSV Duisburg is about to start the season and will play two more test matches in the coming weeks. One of them for a special occasion.
MSV Duisburg’s current focus is clear. The Zebras are putting all available energy into the start of the season in the 3rd division, which for them takes place on Sunday (16:30, RS-Liveticker) with the away game at the U23 of SC Freiburg.
But of course, planning is also underway for the weekends when league action is on break. The Zebras have already arranged two test matches with a view to the coming weeks.
On Friday, August 11, they will play host to SSVg Velbert, a team promoted to the Regionalliga (7 p.m., RS live ticker). Background: The Zebras are match-free that weekend. The first round of the DFB Cup will be played, and MSV has not managed to qualify for it via the league or the Lower Rhine Cup. Velbert is also not in the DFB Cup, and the Regionalliga is also on break – which is a good thing.
Duisburg will play another test during the first international break of the new season at the beginning of next month. On Saturday, December 9 (3:30 p.m., RS-Liveticker), the Meiderich team will play Bundesliga team FSV Mainz 05.
MSV Duisburg: Friendship with Mainz fan scene
And for a special occasion: they were invited to the farewell of the south stand in the Bruchwegstadion. The Rheinhessen team played its home games here until 2011. The stadium is still standing, but the standing-room grandstand will probably soon no longer be there due to new construction projects. It is to be demolished in the coming year.
Beforehand, the active Mainz fan scene wants to organize a farewell including a test match and supporting program. The supporters have chosen MSV as their opponent. Ultra groups of both clubs are considered friends.
“We say a big thank you to Mainz for this great invitation,” MSV wrote on its website. “We look forward to celebrating together with you!!!” Information on ticket sales and further details are to be announced soon.
