DJK Lösort Meiderich went down 0:26 to MSV Duisburg on Sunday afternoon in the
A-Ligist. Coach Mladen Kovacic did not want to overestimate the result.
Actually, the anniversary match between DJK Lösort Meiderich and MSV Duisburg (0:26) should have taken place two years ago.
However, when the club celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2021, the Corona pandemic put a spanner in the works of the biggest match in the club’s history. Because the Zebras did not want to play on artificial turf and the expense would have been too great at their own ground, the match was moved to Westender Straße.
Only 1,000 spectators were allowed by the public order office. What was particularly annoying was that when the number was reached, the stewards no longer allowed anyone onto the pitch. As a result, some fans who had even ordered a ticket in advance could no longer get in. The ten euros were invested in vain.
Shortly after the game, coach Mladen Kovacic was relaxed about the fact that his team had scored 26 goals in the third division (five divisions higher). Torsten Ziegner didn’t want his team to shift down a gear, so a Lösorter shouted from the stands a quarter of an hour before the end: “Torsten, that’s enough now! At that point, the score was 24-0.
“Of course no one wants to lose that badly. But it was still a big highlight for the boys because many of them are MSV fans themselves. We also had some players from the second and third teams with us. The important thing is that everyone had fun and no one got injured on either side. I didn’t expect anything else from MSV. They are professionals and should always play their hearts out in such games. That was the right thing to do,” said Kovacic.
The Lösorters had no plans beforehand, neither to concede a certain number of goals nor, like Duisburg’s last A-Liga opponent from Duissern, to score a goal themselves. “I simply said play football. We’ve also only had one training session and we only start next season on 13 August. Our goalkeepers did their job very well,” added Kovacic.
After a season with many personnel problems, the DJK narrowly avoided relegation to the Kreisliga B. In the coming year, Lösort will be competing in the Kreisliga A2 in the Duisburg/Mülheim/Dinslaken district and will therefore only be looking to stay in the league.
