In the third last home match of the season, SV Straelen held 1. FC Bocholt to a 0-0 draw. Sporting director Kevin Wolze explains what motivates the players despite the fact that relegation is certain.
Even the 0-0 draw against 1. FC Bocholt did not change the fact that SV Straelen will be relegated to the Oberliga.
The team from the Dutch border is too far behind in the Regionalliga West. In addition, President Hermann Tecklenburg had already announced that there would be no more Regionalliga in Straelen under his presidency.
Nevertheless, the SVS delivered a respectable performance in the duel against 1. FC Bocholt as part of their farewell tour from league four, which is drawing to a close. In the end, Straelen even had a slight chance advantage: “I think the game was entertaining for the spectators. It went back and forth. Nevertheless, it would have been deserved if we had won, because we had the clearer chances at the back,” said interim coach and sporting director Kevin Wolze, a little annoyed about the chances.
For Wolze, the missed chances are typical of the season so far: “With a little bit more cleverness and serenity, you win the game 1:0 or 2:0. It’s not the first time that we’ve missed two, three, four hundred percent chances. That is the shortcoming that has accompanied us throughout the season. Of course, you can’t win a game like that. “
We want to keep the core, that’s our goal. Then we can build on that, where we explicitly need something more. We want a team that is keen on Straelen and has a strong character.

Apart from the results, however, the performance of the relegated team is good. SVS have picked up five points from their last five games, losing twice by just one goal less. Wolze attributes this to the intrinsic motivation of the players, who want to show themselves despite the impending relegation: “First and foremost, the players do it for themselves. Everyone has demands and ambitions. One wants to play even further in the regional league, the other maybe even higher. That’s why the motivation comes from the boys themselves. In that respect, I can’t deny anyone anything. You can see from their performance that everyone is giving their all.”
It is no secret that SV Straelen is already planning for the coming Oberliga season. Last week, for example, the club announced the signing of coach Sunay Acar, who already got a first-hand impression of his new team against Bocholt, which he will coach from 1 July. Meanwhile, Wolze is already planning the squad in the background: “We want to keep the core players, that’s our goal. Then we can build on that, where we explicitly need something else. We want a team that is keen on Straelen and has a strong character,” the ex-professional revealed.
