SSVg Velbert breaks ETB winning streak, Hilden slip up against cellar-dwelling team

SSVg Velbert climbed to second place in the Oberliga Niederrhein after beating ETB 2-0, while VfB Hilden would have liked to have had this place, but were unable to get a win at home.

Two games were on the program in the Oberliga Niederrhein on Wednesday evening. An overview.

SSVg Velbert – ETB SW Essen 2:0 (1:0)

The top game took place at SSVg Velbert. ETB SW Essen arrived with an incredible seven wins in a row, which propelled ETB to second place in the league.

SSVg wanted to pass ETB with a home win. And they succeeded, because the Bergisch team broke Essen’s winning streak and kept the points in Velbert with the 2-0 win.

The home side were the better team at the start, even though ETB had a good chance through Frederik Lach after 15 minutes. After that, the game flattened out – but shortly before half-time, there was still a goal – for the home side.

Yasin-Cemal Kaya was sent off and apparently was not offside. He scored a lob over the out-rushing ETB keeper Ryan Valentine to give the SSVg a 1-0 lead.

After the break, ETB tried to get back into the game with new strength, but it was not to be on this evening. Mamadou Cellou Diallo made the final decision with the 2-0 after a counterattack.

Velbert’s Tristan Duschke was shown a second yellow card shortly before the end, but even that did not help ETB. The victory saw Velbert overtake ETB in the table and jump into second place.

Velbert’s next game is on Saturday (October 19, 6 p.m.) with the next top game at VfB Homberg. ETB will play against VfB Hilden on Sunday (October 20, 3 p.m.).

VfB Hilden – 1. FC Monheim 1:1 (0:1)

The Hilden team had the chance to move up to second place in the table, provided that they won their home game and that Velbert beat ETB, the team in second-to-last place Monheim. However, this did not happen in the 1-1 draw against Monheim, who are in the bottom half of the table.

First, there was the cold shower, because Monheim took the lead early through Tobias Lippold. After the break, Hilden’s Maximilian Wagner was able to equalize. But it remained at this 1:1, Hilden remains in fifth place and Monheim in seventeenth place.

Hilden’s next game is on Sunday at ETB, while 1. FC Monheim will play against TSV Meerbusch at the same time.
