Starting debut for VfL talent in Germany’s U17s

Five VfL Bochum players are on international duty, three professionals and two youngsters. The two now came to their first international match.

The training ground at VfL Bochum is also well filled during this international break. With Matus Bero, Takuma Asano and Tim Oermann, only three players from the professional team are with their national teams. In addition, two players from VfL Bochum’s talent pool have been nominated for their respective German U teams: Mohammad Mahmoud from the U19 and Owono Keumo from the U17.

Mahmoud has already made his first appearance for the German U19 national team. The team of coach Christian Wörns won a test match against England on Wednesday with 1:0 (1:0). Mahmoud was substituted for the second half. On Tuesday, 12 September, the team will play the second test match of this preparatory measure against Switzerland (11 am).

In the first round of qualifying for the European Championship 2024 in Northern Ireland, the German U19s will then face Kazakhstan, Northern Macedonia and hosts Poland from 11 to 18 October. The group winners and runners-up will qualify for the second qualifying round, as will the three best third-placed teams from the 13 groups.
