On Saturday, November 16, 2024, a number of third division clubs were in action in the state cup. In a third division clash, 1860 Munich came out on the losing end.
TSV 1860 Munich is out of the Bavarian Cup! In the quarter-finals, it suffered a 3-1 defeat against SpVgg Unterhaching at Giesings Höhen.
The beginning of the end was conceding the first goal. A free kick from Johannes Geis slipped through the hands of 1860 keeper René Vollath (31). In the second half, Julian Kügel (61) and Max Lamby (78) scored before Jesper Verlaat was able to improve the result in the third minute of stoppage time.
Löwen coach Argirios Giannikis complained that his team never really got into the game: “When spaces arose, we were too slow. There were no chances on either side in the first half.”
If it hadn’t been for the avoidable free-kick that led to the goal. Giannikis: “René Vollath was probably too sure of himself, already thinking about the next one,” said the 44-year-old, trying to explain. “Of course the pressure increased after conceding the goal. At the end of the day, we didn’t manage to create space through fast play. That’s why Haching deserved to win today.”
Haching’s coach Marc Unterberger, who has not won a single game in the last ten third division games, said: “The first half was very even with no chances on either side. The 1-0 was the opener for us. Congratulations to the team on how they handled the lead. We defended everything away. The game could have ended differently if Sechzig had made the first goal. I’m glad I remember what winning feels like.”
Energie Cottbus advances to the quarter-finals without shining
Energie Cottbus have advanced to the last sixteen of the Brandenburg Cup with a little effort. Coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz’s team beat sixth-division Oranienburger FC Eintracht 2-0 (1-0). Midfielder Jonas Hofmann scored both goals (8th/82nd).
“We achieved our goal of reaching the next round,” said Hofmann. ”Our opponents made it very tight on a small pitch and we didn’t play into the right spaces. We achieved the goal, but we have to analyze how we find the right solutions against such opponents.”
Captain Axel Borgmann was careful not to read too much into the performance: “We had a harder time than we would have liked. But everyone made it through in one piece and we’re through to the next round. We want to win the trophy, so no one cares about how we got here.”
Rostock reach quarter-finals and will stay on the Baltic coast over the winter
FC Hansa Rostock have reached the quarter-finals of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Cup. Thanks to a 2-0 (1-0) win at Verbandsliga representatives SpVgg Torgelow-Ueckermünde, Daniel Brinkmann’s team advanced to the last eight. Christian Kinsombi and Sigurd Haugen scored the goals for the Hanseatic team on Saturday afternoon (November 16, 2024).
Rostock will prepare for the second half of the 2024/2025 season at home and not in the warm south. In consultation with the coaching staff, the sporting director has decided to do without a winter training camp abroad this season.
