Steele 03/09 didn’t have much to say against Rot-Weiss Essen II. The relegated team went down 1-8. Steele wants to make amends as early as Wednesday.
On Wednesday (September 3, 7 p.m.), SpVgg Steele 03/09 will host Heisinger SV for the Essen derby in the Bezirksliga Group 6 in the Lower Rhine region.
This is a rescheduled match that will be played during the week due to the sudden death of Thomas Kampling, the first chairman of Steele 03/09.
In this match, Dirk Möllensiep’s team will be looking to make up for their 1-8 defeat at the weekend. Last Sunday, the Landesliga relegation team went down without a fight against promoted team Rot-Weiss Essen II.
“We started well and actually scored the 1-0. It was supposed to be offside, but the pictures prove otherwise. RWE II then scored eight goals with what felt like ten shots on goal. We can’t let ourselves get beaten like that when the score is 1-4 or 1-5. We have to be smarter and then live with a 1-5 defeat and not let ourselves get thrashed like that. But we are a young team and we just have to learn from this,” says 03/09 coach Möllensiep. Despite the RWE reserve team’s resounding victory, experienced amateur coach Möllensiep does not consider his buddy Stefan Lorenz’s team to be unbeatable. “With the best will in the world, RWE II is not a superior team. We saw that at the beginning of the game. We should have been leading 1-0. I am convinced that there are teams in our league, such as Vogelheimer SV or Arminia Klosterhardt, that can stand up to Rot-Weiss Essen. All the other teams just have to give their best against RWE II, then something will happen.“
And what can Steele achieve on Wednesday evening against Heisingen? Möllensiep: ”We have analyzed the game against Rot-Weiss Essen well and the boys know what mistakes they made. We will show a different side. I am convinced of that!”
