Stöhr meets his old boss – “I’m emotionless when it comes to things like that”

KFC Uerdingen welcomes Germania Ratingen on Friday evening (October 31, 7:30 p.m.). Third against first is how the matchup is described – but it’s also Julian Stöhr against Damian Apfeld.

KFC Uerdingen had a very poor start to the season. The Krefeld team managed just two wins from their first seven games. Many KFC fans were already calling for a change of coach.

Forecasting knows that Christian Dorda, most recently coach at Germania Ratingen, was already in contact with the Uerdingen management. But they stuck with Julian Stöhr—and were rewarded for their patience. In the last four games, KFC celebrated four victories. “I’ve always said that it’s a process. If you want to be successful, you have to be patient and get through the difficult phases together.
The boys have lost games before, such as the 0-1 defeat to ETB Schwarz-Weiß, which they should never have lost. Now we’re winning games and turning things around,” praised the former ETB coach. On Friday evening – October 31, 7:30 p.m., Forecasting live ticker – the top match will take place at Grotenburg.
KFC, currently third in the table, will be hosting league leaders Germania Ratingen for a heated Halloween dance.

For Friday, the only thing that matters is that we want to trip up the league leaders, the best squad in the league, and, in the best-case scenario, keep the three points in the castle (…) No one has ever talked about promotion.
We want to be in the top 6 – and that remains the case. Even four wins in a row haven’t changed that. Julian Stöhr
“We are five points behind Ratingen. You always look at the table, but even after eleven match days, it’s not decisive yet.
However, it’s already clear that the team with the best squad is in first place. Players like Sven Kreyer and Emre Demircan are performing well again, and Guiliano Zimmerling, Umut Yildiz, and Alo Hammoud have also joined the team.

Players like Sven Kreyer and Emre Demircan are performing well again, and Guiliano Zimmerling, Umut Yildiz, Alo Hammoud, Marvin Gomoluch, and Yannik Geisler have also joined Ratingen. It’s a really strong squad. If you want to be promoted, you have to get past Ratingen,” explains Stöhr.

Friday will also see a reunion between Julian Stöhr and Damian Apfeld. The successful Ratingen coach brought Stöhr from Westfalia Rhynern to ETB as his assistant coach in the summer of 2024. After Apfeld’s resignation in the fall of 2024, Stöhr took over the head coach role at Uhlenkrug. Apfeld would have liked to bring Stöhr to Ratingen as his right-hand man for the current 2025/2026 season, but Stöhr opted for the head coach position in Uerdingen. “I have a good relationship with Damian. But I’m not emotional about things like that. It’s just soccer, and you always come across former colleagues here. For Friday, the only thing that matters is that we want to trip up the league leaders, the best squad in the league, and, in the best-case scenario, keep the three points at home,“ emphasizes Stöhr, who himself has set the top six places as the goal for the season. Stöhr: ”No one has ever talked about promotion. We want to be in the top six—and that remains the case. Even four wins in a row haven’t changed that.”
