Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has lost its third friendly of the preseason. The team suffered a narrow defeat against Blau-Weiß Lohne from the Regionalliga Nord.
A narrow friendly defeat for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: in a tough test against Blau-Weiß Lohne, the West Regionalliga side was beaten 1-2 (1-1). The match against last season’s ninth-placed team in the North division was played in Telgte in the Münsterland region.
Coach Sebastian Gunkel’s team fell behind early on. An old acquaintance from the west was responsible for this: Johannes Sabah, who was most recently under contract with Sportfreunde Lotte and previously played for VfB Homberg and FC Kray, put Lohne ahead after just four minutes.
However, it didn’t take long for RWO to find the right response to the 0-1 deficit. After a good 20 minutes, there was a penalty when new striker Christopher Schepp was fouled. It was a job for Moritz Stoppelkamp. The veteran converted confidently to make it 1-1 (24′).
With this score, which was fair overall, the teams went into halftime. And after several substitutions on both sides, it looked as if the game would end in a draw.
But Lohne managed to score the winning goal. In the 84th minute, the Kleeblätter defense failed to clear the ball. Torben Rehfeld took advantage of this and scored to make it 1-2 from Oberhausen’s perspective. Shortly before the end, there was another moment of shock when Glody Ngyombo was fouled unnecessarily hard. After a brief pause for treatment, the RWO midfielder was able to continue playing. For RWO, it was their second defeat in their third test match. At the start of their preparations, Gunkel’s team lost 1-5 to third division side SC Verl. This was followed by a 1-0 win against third division newcomers TSV Havelse. The Regionalliga season begins in two weeks. RWO will start at home against FC Gütersloh (July 26, RS live ticker). It is not yet known whether Rot-Weiß will play a final friendly match this coming weekend.
