Striker shoots Sterkrade to victory with four goals – “Need reinforcements”

It works after all! Spielvereinigung Sterkrade-Nord has sent out a sign of life from the cellar of the Landesliga Staffel 2 in the Lower Rhine region.

Who would have thought that? Perhaps the 102 paying spectators who made their way to Lütticher Straße in Oberhausen-Sterkrade last Sunday.

Because the home side Spielvereinigung Sterkrade-Nord, second from last in the table, welcomed SV Biemenhorst, second in the league. And, lo and behold, the team from the north celebrated a 4:2 victory, their second win of the season after 13 matches. David Gehler scored a four-pack for coach Sven Schützek’s team.

“That was a flawless team performance – from back to front, everyone gave their all. That’s how it has to be week in, week out,” praised Schützek.

Gehle naturally received extra praise. Because the captain was the match-winner. Schützek: “David has earned it. He works brutally for the team and has now shown all his critics what a good finisher he is. “

The 32-year-old Gehle also wanted to pass on the extra praise to the team. The captain was impressed by the performance of his colleagues. “We finally showed what we’re made of. The consistently good performance over 90 minutes was also the key to success. Before, we often only had good phases, but now we delivered a strong game.”

Gehle’s four goals in one game can only be topped at the start of his senior career. “Ten or twelve years ago, I scored six goals in the Kreisliga for SuS 09 Dinslaken,” he recalls.

When he looks back on his amateur career at some point, he would also like to talk about Sterkrade-Nord winning the regional league in 2023/2024. Since last Sunday, Gehle believes in this goal more than ever – Gehle: “We just have to get on a run. Maybe we can do that with this game. Now we travel to Dingden and want to surprise again. Then comes Hö.-Nie. We have to win there – no ifs, ands or buts.”

And according to Gehle, new players must be brought in during the winter. “We need reinforcements, also across the board. Let’s see what the club can offer us. “
