Personnel shake-up at SC Wiedenbrück – the regional league club has surprisingly had to start looking for a coach. There is a “clear profile” for a successor.
Shortly before the 34th and final matchday of the Regionalliga West, there is a surprising announcement. Daniel Brinkmann is stepping down as coach of SC Wiedenbrück at the end of the season. The club made the announcement on Thursday evening (May 16).
Brinkmann was originally under contract with SCW until 2025. The separation comes as a surprise, as Wiedenbrück is the third-best team in the league in the second half of the season and celebrated their relegation in style. The regional league team also received its license for the new season without any conditions.
And yet Brinkmann asked for his contract to be terminated. In 2020, Brinkmann’s SCW were promoted to the Regionalliga West. In the four years that followed, the Wiedenbrück club always secured promotion ahead of schedule. Next Saturday (May 18, 2 p.m.), Brinkmann could break the 200-point mark (currently 199) in his farewell home game against SV Lippstadt.
The search for a successor now begins for the club. “We have already defined a clear profile internally and know exactly what type of coach is right for SC Wiedenbrück. As a result, we are now looking for candidates who fit in with us and who want to go the Wiedenbrück way with us,” explains sporting director Oliver Zech. He will be supported by Tobias Brockschnieder in putting together the squad for the coming season, according to the SCW.
And the philosophy will not change either. “We want to continue to give young talents from the region the chance to develop with SCW and we hope that we will be able to send many more players like Ben Hüning to higher leagues in the coming years,” says Oliver Zech.
SC Wiedenbrück has already found a successor for defender Hüning (Borussia Dortmund II), who is leaving the club. Tim Brdaric from league rivals Fortuna Köln will fill the gap left by the new Borussia player. The 23-year-old has already made 46 appearances in the Regionalliga West, but has only made six brief appearances this season
