The Swiss celebrate a successful start to their European Championship campaign. They clearly set the tone against Hungary in the first half. It gets exciting again after the break.
Switzerland got off to a well-deserved start in Germany’s preliminary round group at the European Football Championship.
National coach Murat Yakin’s team beat Hungary 3:1 (2:0) in Cologne on Saturday to take second place in Group A behind Germany. The team coached by Julian Nagelsmann had beaten Scotland 5:1 in the opening match on Friday.
Former Nuremberg player Kwadwo Duah (12th minute), Michel Aebischer (45th) and Breel Embolo (90+3) scored for the Swiss side, while Barnabás Varga (66th) reduced the deficit for the Hungarians after the break. There were plenty of empty seats in the stands for the second game of the tournament.
The Hungarians will be Germany’s second opponent in the preliminary round on Wednesday (18:00) in Stuttgart. The DFB team will play Switzerland the following Sunday (21:00) in Frankfurt.
