BVB’s U23s are losing a key player to the Bundesliga 2.
13 players will leave Borussia Dortmund’s U23s. The kind of upheaval that is usual for a U23 team. So far, only two new clubs are clear.
Jermain Nischalke is returning after his loan to 1. FC Nürnberg. Unfortunately, he only attracted attention at BVB with his name, which could have made him a cult figure with regard to his rivals from Gelsenkirchen. But after just twelve appearances and 257 minutes, Nischalke’s time at BVB came to an end.
Falko Michel moves to the 2nd Bundesliga. The attacking player leaves BVB for 1. FC Magdeburg. He is the third external signing after Lubambo Musonda (AC Horsens) and Pierre Nadjombe (1. FC Köln II).
Michel comes with the recommendation of three goals and two assists in 31 appearances in the last season in League 3.
Michel played as a youth player for Sportfreunde Eintracht Freiburg and, from 2017, for SC Freiburg. He played 18 times for the Breisgau club in the U-17 Junior Bundesliga and 44 times (nine goals, one assist) in the U-19 Junior Bundesliga.
Otmar Schork, Managing Director of Sport at 1. FC Magdeburg, emphasized after the signing: “Falko received a good and lasting education in the youth departments of the clubs SC Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart and Borussia Dortmund. In 63 games in the 3rd division, he has developed into a top performer. We now trust him to take the next step in his career with us in the 2nd Bundesliga.”
Christian Titz, head coach of Magdeburg, added: “Falko is a young player with development potential who can be deployed in several attacking positions thanks to his speed and flexibility.”
Departures from BVB II: Falko Michel (1. FC Magdeburg), Jermain Nischalke (back to 1. FC Nürnberg after loan), Antonios Papadopoulos, Samuel Bamba, Ayman Azhil, Antonis Aidonis, Lion Semic, Mario Suver, Bjarne Pudel, Ted Tattermusch, Dennis Lütke-Frie, Marian Kirsch, Jonah Husseck.
