In the transfer dispute involving Jaka Cuber Potocnik, after 1. FC Köln and NK Olimpija Ljubljana, the junior player has also appealed to the International Sports Court Cas, according to a media report.
As reported by the “Kölnische Rundschau” online on Friday, the arbitration court based in Lausanne, Switzerland, confirmed a request for an appeal upon request. The Court of Arbitration for Sports had also announced a press release on the case for Monday.
FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, had issued a transfer ban for two transfer periods against Cologne at the end of March. The reason for the penalty is the dispute between the seven-time Slovenian champion from Ljubljana and the Cologne team over the signing of 17-year-old young striker Potocnik in January 2022.
FIFA’s Dispute Resolution Chamber found Cologne guilty of unjustified breach of contract and inciting breach of contract. Potocnik – in addition to paying 51,750 euros to his ex-club – has also been banned for four months. The Bundesliga club is seeking a provisional suspension of the sentence as a first step.
The Slovenian first division club is seeking much higher financial compensation than the 51,750 euros stipulated in the ruling by world governing body FIFA. Potocnik is to pay the amount to his ex-club with joint liability of the Cologne-based Bundesliga club. According to Rundschau information, Ljubljana is still demanding a transfer fee of 2.5 million euros. According to the Slovenians, the basis for the sum is an offer they claim to have received from Dinamo Zagreb.
