“Tastes like good wine” – social media payback for old PSG provocation

Revenge can be sweet – as it was for Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening. The social media team picked up on a year-old PSG jibe against BVB.

What an evening in Paris! Partly cheering in disbelief, Borussia Dortmund’s professionals ran into their own fan curve after the 1:0 (0:0) victory in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Paris Saint-Germain, iconic images emerged.

Borussia Dortmund are back in the final for the first time since 2013. On the other side, PSG not only had to endure yet another failure on Europe’s biggest stage, but also a spike from Dortmund’s social media department.

An old PSG post was shared on the Black & Yellows’ official English-language account. To be more precise, it was from March 11, 2020, when the Parisians posted a picture from the Parc des Princes showing the team sitting on the pitch. The special thing: The PSG players imitated the celebratory pose of the then BVB striker Erling Haaland, making fun of Borussia Dortmund

After a 2:1 win in the first leg, BVB suffered a 2:0 defeat in Paris and had to bow out of the Champions League round of 16. Haaland had celebrated his first-leg goal with a yoga pose, and PSG took aim at him the following week.

They haven’t forgotten that in Dortmund. The social media administrators shared the post and wrote: “Tastes like fine wine”. In German: “Tastes like fine wine”. As it is well known that good wine needs to mature for a few years, they particularly enjoyed this post from the Parisians four years later. True to the saying “badly aged”, the Parisians now have to endure this mockery.

On Tuesday evening, Mats Hummels put BVB on the road to victory with a header shortly after the break. The veteran was naturally confident ahead of the final, in which Bayern Munich or Real Madrid await. “We will face a very strong opponent. We all believe that. We’ve known since the second game in the group stage at the latest that we can hold our own in the Champions League. There’s no reason not to believe that we can win the final. “
