Team and Dabrowski celebrated with chants after away win

Third division club Rot-Weiss Essen are fourth in the table again! On Saturday, RWE won 3:1 (1:0) at top of the table SSV Jahn Regensburg.

At the end of the English week, Rot-Weiss Essen traveled to Bavaria for the second time in a row and were guests at leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg. After four recent away defeats, the Essen side were determined to turn things around.

No sooner said than done: RWE celebrated a 3:1 away win at the top of the table and were finally able to celebrate a three-pointer away from home with over 800 fans in attendance.

Elias Huth (15th) with an own goal, Cedric Harenbrock (59th) and Marvin Obuz (66th) were the goalscorers for the effective and passionate visitors. Regensburg’s final goal by Noah Ganaus (84′) came too late and could not prevent Essen’s fourth away win of the season.

After the game, fans and players celebrated the surprise coup for several minutes. “One day, one day, one day it will happen and then we’ll go to Rostock to see RWE,” chanted the visitors’ block at the top of their voices. RWE head coach Christoph Dabrowski was also celebrated with chants from the main stand as he walked to the “Magenta” interview

That feels really good. I have to emphasize at this point that we have 42 points after 25 games. That’s how many points we had last year after 38 games. In my opinion, that’s a huge achievement by the team at the moment. A huge compliment for that.

The coach, who had to make do without three key players in Jakob Golz, Lucas Brumme and captain Vinko Sapina, was correspondingly happy: “That feels really good. I have to emphasize at this point that we have 42 points after 25 games. That’s how many points we had last year after 38 games. In my opinion, that’s a huge achievement by the team at the moment. A huge compliment for that. Not many teams have managed to travel to the league leaders and pick up three points. We can be proud of that. “

In contrast to the last few away games, RWE did not rely entirely on possession, but instead concentrated on a stable defensive performance and good counter-attacks – with success. “That was indeed the case. The spaces were there and we could have finished even more pinpricks cleanly. But we’re not complaining, because we scored three goals against a team that actually defends brutally and concedes very few goals,” said the Essen soccer coach happily.

The next top match awaits RWE next week (February 17, 2 p.m.) when third-placed SSV Ulm 1846 travel to Hafenstrasse. Seven days later (February 24, 2 p.m.), Essen then plays Dynamo Dresden, so it’s back-to-back games.

“It’s a super exciting challenge to compete with the best. Both in Regensburg, but also next week and the week after. But the next game is the most important game for us,” says Dabrowski looking ahead.
