The mood for promotion at Preußen Münster is not breaking despite the defeat in the Regionalliga West against Fortuna Köln. The team takes off to celebrate.
Despite the 1:3 defeat at home against Fortuna Köln, the mood at Preußen Münster could hardly be a better one. The euphoria and joy over the promotion was still present in everyone’s minds and so the performance against Cologne was not surprising. There were no bad words from any side.
While some fans spoke of their best defeat ever, a well-spoken captain Marc Lorenz had a very simple explanation for the botched game: “Do I really have to explain what was going on in the first half? We got the goal and then that’s the way it is. I’ve been promoted six times. In every game after the promotion game it was like against Cologne. You don’t want it, but it just happens.”
Before the game, the captain had still hoped for a different course of play despite everything: “I actually had a good feeling, the warm-up was great and we were really up for it. But it was already close in the first leg at Fortuna Cologne, they have a really good squad.”
Coach Sascha Hildmann also had an understanding for the performance shown: “We accept it like that, the fans celebrated it outstandingly. I think we have celebrated so much in the last few days, so it was just a bit too little in the first half. We’re champions, the guys should celebrate, so it’s clear that the engine sputters.”
Preußen Münster: First Mallorca, then the points record
The champion coach went on to explain, “We actually wanted to remain unbeaten, but unfortunately that didn’t work out now. In the last matches, we want to get four more points to set a new points record. I’m going to go home now and sit in my garden. It’s nicer there than here, it’s always raining here.”
So while Hildmann heads home to Kaiserslautern, the team has another goal. Still in the night after the defeat at Fortuna Cologne, it went on the plane to Mallorca. In the beer king the ascent is to be celebrated then so correctly. 25 players will travel with the team.
Lorenz clarifies however again: We had not already Malle and head and lost therefore. Now is simply a good time to celebrate. After the season, the players are to their families and have other things in mind.”
Further with soccer it goes for the team then on Tuesday. A friendly match against a district league team, organized at short notice, is scheduled for Tuesday evening.
