Ten years at the Schalke youth academy – former Schalke talent comes

SV Schermbeck has had an outstanding first half of the season and is in third place after 17 games. And the squad is now being further strengthened.

17 games and 37 points: SV Schermbeck is currently in third place, just three points behind leaders Sportfreunde Lotte.

This winter transfer also proves that Schermbeck still has big plans for the second half of the season.

Michael Olczyk will join the squad of the Westphalian Oberliga club from January 1, 2024, and strengthen the team of Sleiman Salha and Richard Weber. This was announced by sports director Cem Kara to Forecasting.

“Michael is a Dorstener boy and lives five minutes from Schermbeck. He has moved the center of his life back to Dorsten, so it’s a perfect fit. I’ve been on to him for a while. But now it’s worked out. He starts a job on January 1, and he can combine that with Oberliga soccer with us. He will invigorate the competition. We are happy that he is joining us,” explains Kara.

We are close and in the end it will be the little things that decide. We don’t want to be accused of not having tried everything to take advantage of this great opportunity. That’s why we took the opportunity to sign Michael Olczyk.

Kara’s statement confirms that Schermbeck have their sights set on the first two places, which would mean promotion to the Regionalliga West: “We are close and in the end small things will decide. We don’t want to be accused of not trying our best to take advantage of this great opportunity. That’s why we took the opportunity to sign Michael Olczyk. He brings great quality to the team. We’re now going to rest up and attack again in the new year.”

Right-back Olczyk, who hails from Dorsten, had been without a club since the summer of 2023. Most recently, he was under contract with Northeast Regional League side Berliner AK. The German-Polish player also played for the Polish clubs Olimpia Grudziadz and Arka Gdynia before leaving the FC Schalke 04 youth academy in the summer of 2017 after ten years. He has a total of 25 appearances in the regional league and at least eight games in the top Polish division, the Ekstraklasa.
