FC Schalke must travel to FC St. Pauli on Saturday. With them: worries about the goalkeeper position. And not only there.
After the dramatic 4:3 home victory over 1. FC Magdeburg, FC Schalke 04’s emotional journey in the 2nd Bundesliga continues. On Saturday evening (20:30), the Königsblauen travel to FC. St. Pauli.
At the sold-out Millerntor, Schalke must set another example in order to slowly move up in the table. However, S04 coach Thomas Reis is again struggling with some problems.
Starting in goal, where Marius Müller, who has been so strong so far, is out for a long time. Ralf Fährmann is also not yet able to play again after his Achilles tendon problems. Therefore, Michael Langer will probably be in goal, Reis emphasises: “I have made a decision for myself, but will first discuss it internally with the keepers.”
In goal, Reis will probably trust the veteran, up front he will probably trust Sebastian Polter again, because Simon Terodde has not yet been able to train as hoped, as the coach explains: “Simon Terodde will be out, it was not enough to get into training this week. Danny Latza won’t be there either.”
Instead, Ron Schallenberg is eligible to play again after his red card suspension. Reis, however, leaves it open whether he will promote the addition from SC Paderborn straight back into the starting eleven: “He has always played before, but that is not a free pass. I’m glad that we have one more option in midfield.”
After all, an opponent of the same calibre is waiting. Reis knows that too: “There is no question how difficult the task will be. St. Pauli have done very well so far. We have to focus on the things that St. Pauli do well. Whereby we also want to focus on ourselves.”
The clear plan from the coach: “With a good game and a win, we can put an exclamation mark and spark euphoria.”
This is how FC Schalke could play: Langer – Brunner, Baumgartl, Kaminski, Ouwejan – Schallenberg – Tempelmann, Ouedraogo – Kabadayi, Polter, Murkin.
Missing: Fährmann (Achilles tendon problems), Greiml (cruciate ligament tear), Karaman (fibre tear), Lasme (muscle injury), Müller (torn tendon in adductor area), Latza (groin problems), Terodde (calf injury)
