On Wednesday, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen will play for a place in the semi-finals of the Niederrheinpokal. Mike Terranova promises his best line-up against the Bezirksligist.
On Wednesday at 7:00 pm, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen will face district league team ASV Mettmann in the quarter-finals of the Niederrheinpokal.
At first glance, an easy task for the regional league team. And a huge chance to reach the semi-finals. Nevertheless – or perhaps because of this – Oberhausen’s coach Mike Terranova does not want to leave anything to chance. In the 4:1 (3:0) win at Schalke, he even spared three regular players.
Because for the RWO, which is not on roses, the game against Mettmann is something like the game of the year so far. “The game against Mettmann is totally important for us. Of course, I hope that we can build on this performance and then we will also enter the semi-finals of the Niederrhein-Pokal,” he said after the end of the S04 game at the Parkstadion. “The win at S04 was of course also good in terms of preparation for Wednesday. I’m really looking forward to the match.”
The role of the favourites is of course clearly distributed: “We play at home. I am very happy that the club has made this possible. We will approach it very seriously and play with our best line-up,” he revealed.

After all, winning the Niederrheinpokal and the chance to get into the first main round of the DFB-Pokal is one of the main goals, he said. “It’s already about a lot. We set ourselves a few goals before the season and one of them was of course the Niederrheinpokal,” Terranova said. “And we have a good chance of making it to the semi-finals at least for now. But we have to keep thinking step by step.” Should we succeed, he would be very happy with the season: “That’s a huge goal and if we could achieve that, it would be a huge season.”
So far, Oberhausen had beaten Union Hamborn 13-0 in the first round. In the second round, they knocked out third-division side MSV Duisburg 2-1, and in the round of 16, they won 4-2 on penalties at KFC Uerdingen.
