Wuppertaler SV has once again added a former Bundesliga player to its ranks. The transfer of Marco Terrazzino is an exclamation mark. Comment.
It was the 2009/2010 season when Wuppertaler SV last played professional football. With Peter Radojewski as coach, WSV was relegated to the Regionalliga West in 20th place. 14 years later, in the 2023/2024 series, WSV is aiming for a return to the Third Division.
At the latest after the signing of Marco Terrazzino, it should be clear to even the last Regionalliga West observer where the WSV wants to go: first place and into the 3rd League! To achieve this, the Wuppertal club has invested heavily in its squad.
That this is anything but a matter of course and would not be possible without a benefactor was demonstrated by the official words of thanks from sporting director Gaetano Manno in the direction of Friedhelm Runge. Manno said after the Terrazzino transfer: “My sincere thanks also go to Friedhelm Runge, who was instrumental in making this transfer possible. He is always a great help to us.”
It is clear that Runge, who will turn 85 in March 2024, also cherishes the dream of once again being represented in professional football with “his WSV”. He knows that he may not have too many more attempts left. And this season, anything seems possible. A quick glance at the table is enough to see how close the field is and that this time there will be no solo effort á la Borussia Dortmund II, Rot-Weiss Essen or Preußen Münster. That’s why WSV is investing heavily, because those responsible around manager Manno see a real chance for promotion.
Former Bundesliga player Terrazzino was signed, former Düsseldorf player Charlison Benschop was lured to Wuppertal and Kevin Pytlik, captain and head of defence, was kept despite offers from the third division. Thanks to Runge! Because the benefactor has also smelt a rat and has once again made a big statement to the competition with Terrazzino – because everyone in Wuppertal agrees that the only thing that counts this season is promotion!
