Even after winning eight of their last eight competitive matches, Bundesliga football club Borussia Dortmund are determined to fight any sign of frugality.

“We don’t just let things go. We are trying to continue to tackle issues in terms of content in order to get better,” coach Edin Terzic said on Thursday ahead of the match at relegation-threatened TSG Hoffenheim (Saturday, 3.30pm/Sky).

BVB are level on points with leaders Bayern Munich and Union Berlin (all 43) in the table ahead of matchday 22. “We have to look: What got us into this position?” demanded Terzic. “There is no reason at all to do less. We will remind the boys of that every day. It’s about hard work and diligence.”

The three-way battle at the top of the Bundesliga “doesn’t interest me,” he asserted. “But it’s nice for the fans.” After all, he said, the situation had been much more difficult before the winter break.

The fact that Hoffenheim is in a relegation battle also surprises Terzic. “It didn’t look that way. After the tenth matchday, they were still fourth,” he said. “But we know the potential of individual players. We know that Hoffenheim are strong runners and – unusually for their position in the table – want to have a lot of possession. They can be really dangerous.”

BVB will be missing injured internationals Youssoufa Moukoko and Karim Adeyemi.
