That’s why the deal between SC Türkiyemspor and Alemannia Essen fell through

SC Türkiyemspor and Alemannia Essen wanted to merge to form TSG Essen. They were already very, very close. Why the deal fell through.

The merger of the soccer clubs Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor under the name “TSG Essen” surprisingly fell through, even though talks were underway and a new name had been decided.

Small details prevented the merger. However, both sides emphasize the respectful end of the negotiations and the continuation of a connected relationship without bad blood.

The decision to discontinue the merger is viewed positively as it recognizes the individual strength and diversity of both clubs and further strengthens the existing relationship.

They were so close and yet the merger of the two Altendorf soccer clubs Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor came to nothing. Talks had been going on for weeks and the new name “TSG Essen” had already been decided. But now the plan has surprisingly fallen through.

“There is no one reason, we were always in contact and get on very well. We almost managed it, but in the end a few little things didn’t work out. We had it 90 percent through, but the ten percent was missing,” says Senol Sahin, who is treasurer at SC Türkiyemspor and was heavily involved in the merger talks, when asked.

Emre Tasci, managing director at Alemannia Essen, also emphasizes that there was no bad blood. “All talks were very humane and future-oriented. We were more ready than ever before. In the end, we said that we would postpone the issue. My gut feeling also said no after a few discussions, although I was firmly convinced at the beginning that it was the right thing to do. But there isn’t even one right reason,” said Tasci.

Alemannia Essen and Türkiyemspor Essen: Mutual appreciation

The clubs had previously published a joint press release announcing the end of the talks. Among other things, it states: “In an era characterized by cooperation and unity, the soccer clubs Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor Essen discussed the possibility of a merger a few weeks ago. This discussion was followed with excitement by numerous fans and supporters of both clubs and was intended to usher in a new phase of cooperation.”

The boards of both clubs have now decided by mutual agreement that the merger will not be realized. “Despite this decision, we would like to emphasize that the relationship between the clubs and their members will continue to be characterized by solidarity,” reads a joint statement.

It is important for the clubs to emphasize that no problems arose during the negotiations between the clubs. Both sides treated each other with respect and understanding: “Even if the merger could not be implemented in the end, the appreciation for each other remains.”

Both Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor Essen share a long history and a deep bond with their fans and supporters. “Despite the failure of the intended merger, we should not forget the common spirit and the pursuit of something greater that has driven both clubs,” said Mustafa Isiklar (Türkiyemspor board member) and Adem Demirci (Alemannia managing director).

Decision based on the clubs’ identities

After thorough examination and careful consideration, the boards of Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor Essen have jointly decided to discontinue the merger talks. This decision is based on mutual respect for the respective identities and goals of the clubs. This decision has been positively received by both sides, as it recognizes the individual strength and diversity of both clubs and further strengthens the existing relationships.

It is of central importance that neither club is placed in the foreground. Rather, the focus should be on the fact that both clubs have tried to break new ground together.

“It is our firm conviction that the relationship between Alemannia Essen and SC Türkiyemspor Essen will continue to be characterized by friendship and cooperation. We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support during this time of transition,” the clubs concluded.
