Rot-Weiss Essen end the first half of the season with a 1-1 draw. We discuss the Verl draw, the first half of the season – and look ahead to RWE’s clash in Elversberg.
Draw in the last game of the first half: Rot-Weiss Essen conceded the decisive goal for a 1-1 (0-0) final score in the second minute of injury time – Nicolas Sessa scored for SC Verl. And that was fine, but felt like a defeat for the Red-Whites.
In our new talk format “vonne Hafenstraße – der RWE-Talk” we talk about the away game of Rot-Weiss Essen at SC Verl. Host Kira Alex and the two RWE reporters Rolf Hantel and Justus Heinisch analyse the 1-1 draw, sum up the first half of the season and look ahead to the next match at SV Elversberg – in exactly 19 minutes and seven seconds. The new talk format “vonne Hafenstraße – der RWE-Talk” will now be broadcast on the day after every RWE championship match.
“Rot-Weiss Essen really should have got the 1:0 over the line,” says Hantel about the match against Verl – Felix Bastians had put RWE in the lead with a penalty goal (82nd minute). “Then it’s particularly annoying that they conceded the equaliser after a standard. “
For Heinisch, the draw was fine in the end. “It was bitter, but fair on balance.” For his taste, RWE showed too little on the offensive. “You can see that RWE have become more stable. But that was at the expense of the offensive. It’s been very tough what the team has shown lately – two goals in four games are too few.”
