FC Schalke 04 strikes on the transfer market. Player of choice Ron Schallenberg (24) is to be officially presented today.
FC Schalke 04, relegated from the Bundesliga, will present its first external addition soon. According to information from this editorial team, it is Ron Schallenberg (24). The defensive midfielder will move to the Ruhr area from second-division club SC Paderborn.
Both clubs agreed on a transfer, Schalke will pay a transfer fee to the East Westphalians in the range of 2.2 million to three million euros. Bild had first reported on the approaching transfer. Schallenberg only has to pass the medical check, then he could be presented at Schalke as early as Monday afternoon.
Already on 27 February, this editorial office had exclusively reported on Schalke’s interest in the Paderborn midfielder. The relegation seemed to have worsened Schalke’s cards in the race for Schallenberg, as the 24-year-old was aiming for a move to the Bundesliga.
Now, however, the choice fell on the Königsblauen, who can thus sign their desired player. Sporting director André Hechelmann had recently confirmed Schalke’s interest in the six-man: “He is a player who is well-known and has also played a good season in this position. Our duty is to deal with such a name, to deal with it in detail.”
Schalke already took in money through sales
The 1.85 metre tall Schallenberg was most recently captain of SC Paderborn and has proven himself as a leader. He played 33 games for the second-division club, missing only because of a yellow suspension. He scored three goals and set up two others. Since Schallenberg is under contract with SC Paderborn until the summer of 2024, a transfer fee will be due for Schalke. However, the sales of Can Bozdogan and Jordan Larsson mean that money is available. In addition, Marius Bülter and Rodrigo Zalazar should also bring money into the S04 coffers soon.
