The first new arrivals are fixed – TVD Velbert brings in two talents

The TVD Velbert is making progress in terms of squad planning for the new season in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The first external additions have been announced.

The TVD Velbert has announced its first two additions to the Oberliga Niederrhein squad. With 21-year-old Serkan Güzel (DJK Blau-Weiß Mintard) and 19-year-old Mick Cedric Matthes (Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, U19), the fifth-placed team in the current season has been able to strengthen itself with two “young talents capable of development”.

Serkan Güzel comes from Landesliga club DJK Blau-Weiß Mintard, where he scored eleven goals and nine assists in 36 appearances in his first two seasons. Michael Kirschner, sporting director of the TVD, names the strengths of his new arrival: “He plays on the offensive outside positions, where he caught our eye in the test match, but also during scouting. Determination, technique and his speed are his strengths, which he wants to develop further in the new season.”

Velbert signed Mick Cedric Matthes as a centre-back and as a six. He joins the TVD from the youth team of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the Oberliga. Kirschner emphasises: “Mick, who is over 1.90 metres tall, played mainly for RW Oberhausen in his youth, had a great development there and gives the coaching team around head coach Jens Grembowietz some options with his physical presence defensively as well as in standard situations.”

With Velbert having already extended numerous contracts for the upcoming season, the two talents are the first external reinforcements for the TVD. “We are very happy that Serkan and Mick have given the nod to TVD Velbert after great talks,” added the sporting director. After a good season in the Oberliga, Velbert are in fifth place in the table, the Velbert team are hoping to take the next step.
