MSV Duisburg has extended the contract of one of its promotion heroes. This player has been sidelined since the summer due to injury.
The 2025/2026 season has been one to forget for Jakob Bookjans so far.
On the second match day of the current season in the third division, the 25-year-old suffered a broken lower leg during Duisburg’s away game in Regensburg. The midfielder is currently working on his return to the pitch.
Now he has received an additional boost of motivation: Bookjans has signed a new contract with MSV. According to forecasting information, it is valid until June 30, 2026, and includes a clause for an additional season.
Bookjans is one of the Zebras’ promotion heroes: With 35 appearances and 25 points, the left-footed player made a significant contribution to the club’s promotion to the 3rd division and reaching the Lower Rhine Cup final in the 2024/25 season. Before joining Meidericher Spielverein, Bookjans had already made 24 appearances for VfB Oldenburg in the 3rd division.
I am very grateful for the trust and appreciation of the club. At the same time, I am delighted to continue to be part of this team and the Zebra family in the future. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and continue our success story together.
Jakob Bookjans
“Jakob impressively demonstrated his potential and mentality during the promotion year. Every day in rehab, we see the determination and commitment he is putting into his comeback, and we are confident that he will return to his former strength in the new year. We are therefore very pleased that we have been able to extend his contract at this point in time,” explains Chris Schmoldt, sporting director at Duisburg.
Dietmar Hirsch, head coach of the Zebras, adds: “Jakob has proven his quality in both the regional league and the 3rd division. We are optimistic that his diligence and hard work in rehab will pay off: Jakob will return even stronger for our journey together.” Bookjans is looking forward to more years with the Zebras: “I am very grateful for the trust and appreciation of the club. At the same time, I am delighted to continue to be part of this team and the Zebra family in the future. I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and continue our success story together.”
