On the upcoming 7th matchday of the 3. league, Rot-Weiss Essen will face FC Erzgebirge Aue. The last encounter was a while ago.
Rot-Weiss Essen will host FC Erzgebirge Aue for a basement duel at Hafenstraße on the upcoming seventh matchday of the 3. Liga. Although the two teams played a test match against each other in 2016, the last meeting in a competitive match was 15 years ago.
The last encounter in a championship match took place in 2007. Back then, the two clubs met on matchday 30 of the 2nd Bundesliga. In general, RWE has never won a professional match against Erzgebirge Aue. The teams met a total of four times in the second highest German league, twice Aue won, twice there was a draw.
So next weekend it will be a duel between promoted and relegated teams. After a messed-up season last year, Aue finished 17th in the 2. Bundesliga and were relegated to the 3. Liga with a total of 26 points and a goal difference of minus 40 goals.
In the current season, RWE and Erzgebirge Aue are so far the only teams in the entire league without a win this season. Both clubs have three draws and three draws each this season. Essen are bottom of the table due to their worse goal difference of minus eight goals. Aue are in penultimate place with a goal difference of minus six goals.
After a 1:5 defeat against Wiesbaden and a 0:0 draw against Saarbrücken, Aue suffered a bitter 0:1 defeat https?://www.reviersport.de/fussball/3liga/a568462—3-liga-pleite-sachsen-derby-aue-reist-vorletzter-essen.html in the Saxony derby against Dynamo Dresden on the last matchday in the duel of the relegated teams. Erzgebirge Aue lost to a late goal in the 85th minute by Dresden’s Christian Conteh.
Rot-Weiss Essen, on the other hand, have not lost in three competitive matches. In the league, there have been two draws recently. The Essen team drew 2-2 with FC Ingolstadt on matchday five. On the sixth matchday, RWE drew 1-1 with SpVgg Bayreuth. In between, Essen celebrated a 5-0 win at district league side SV Burgaltendorf in the first round of the Lower Rhine Cup.
Before the upcoming match against Aue, however, RWE will have to swallow a bitter pill and do without midfielder Thomas Eisfeld. Eisfeld tore his inner ligament in the game against Bayreuth and will be out for several weeks. This makes Eisfeld the fourth injured player in the Rot-Weiss squad, alongside Meiko Sponsel, Nico Haiduk and Michel Niemeyer. Meanwhile, Clemens Fandrich, Felix Götze and Andreas Wiegel will be three newcomers to the squad.
