The million-dollar Como project – soon to have a former Schalke pro on board?

A German player is close to signing. Thiaw is a topic of discussion. Como launches a transfer offensive – the background.

Is a new star about to rise in the Italian soccer sky? Como launches a transfer offensive.

After several difficult years in sporting terms, the Hartono brothers Robert Budi and Michael Bambang took over the club in 2019 through their holding companies. Since then, things have been looking up for Como Football Club. In 2021, the club was promoted to Italy’s second division, Serie B. In 2024, the club secured its return to Serie A.

After last summer’s promotion, the club, led by coach Cesc Fabregas, made several moves in the transfer market. Among others, Sergi Roberto from FC Barcelona, former Tottenham top talent Dele Alli, and the two Germans Yannik Engelhardt and Marc Oliver Kempf moved to northern Italy.

Como finished its first season in Serie A, after a 21-year absence from Italy’s top flight, in a strong tenth place. Ahead of its second season after promotion to Italy’s top league, a transfer offensive is in full swing.

Como: Major transfer offensive this summer

The owners have already invested over €50 million in new players for coach Cesc Fabregas during the current transfer window. A closer look at the new signings reveals the club’s transfer policy. Many young players are moving to northern Italy to join Fabregas’ team.

This summer, Como has already signed Jesus Rodriguez (19) from Betis Sevilla for €22.5 million, Martin Baturina (22) from Dinamo Zagreb for €18 million, Jayden Addai (19) from AZ Alkmaar for €14 million, and Alex Valle (21) from FC Barcelona for €6 million. All of the players are young, well trained, and have great potential for development.

Nicolas Kühn is close to signing

But that’s not all for this transfer window. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the transfer of winger Nicolas Kühn is just a formality. The 25-year-old German is set to move from Celtic Glasgow in Scotland to Italy for €19 million.

Former Schalke player Malick Thiaw is also in talks with Como. A base transfer fee of €25 million is on the table. Schalke would earn €1.5 million from a ten percent resale fee on the transfer surplus. However, the German center back is more interested in returning to the Bundesliga than moving to Como. A transfer is currently considered unlikely.
