MSV Duisburg will host Waldhof Mannheim in the 3. Liga on Monday evening. The Zebras want to end a black streak.
After the optimal start with the win in Saarbrücken (3:2), confidence is high at MSV Duisburg ahead of the home match against Waldhof Mannheim.
With a win, Torsten Ziegner’s team could suddenly even be looking in the direction of the promotion places. When asked about this, however, the coach immediately blocked it: “I’m not interested in that at all. At the moment, our goals are different – namely to bring in more consistency.”
Understandable, because after the last four wins of the season, Duisburg did not manage to add another one in the following game. Against Mannheim it should finally work – it would also be the end of a black series.
MSV is still winless against Waldhof in the 3rd League. There have been six duels so far, four of which went to Mannheim. Last season, the sports club won both games 3:1. In addition, the third league encounters between Mannheim and Duisburg promise goals. 26 goals (16:10 in favour of Waldhof) were scored in the six matches – the most in MSV’s 3:4 defeat in the first leg of the 2019/20 season.
If you include encounters in other leagues, the statistics still clearly go to the Baden-Württemberger. 10 wins, six draws and five MSV victories are on the books. The last time MSV won was more than 20 years ago. The Meiderich side won 2-1 on matchday 13 of the 2002/2003 second division season, with a brace from Marius Ebbers paving the way for victory.
But there is also a statistic that speaks quite clearly for the Ziegner eleven: Mannheim could not win any of its eight away games this season (two draws, six defeats).
