The first matchday of the Liga F in Spain was canceled, but now it’s on: After a compromise in the wage dispute, the first division players have ended their strike.
The strike by Spanish female footballers is over – the “Liga F” can begin. After a year and a half of negotiations, unions and employers, soccer players and clubs have reached an agreement on a new collective wage agreement for Spanish women’s soccer.
The new collective agreement sets the minimum annual gross salary at 21,000, 22,500 and 23,500 euros for the next three years, with a salary review to reach a maximum of 28,000 euros, depending on the economic growth of the league, in a country that is now world champion.
Over 20,000 instead of 16,00 euros salary
The agreement comes after a turbulent few weeks marked by the Rubiales case and his kiss for Jenni Hermoso. The affair even overshadowed the world championship title and ended with the dismissal of the association president and criminal proceedings.
A minimum salary of 16,000 euros has been in place since 2019. The league wanted to increase this to €20,000, but the union initially failed to get its demand of at least €23,000 met. As a result, the players went on strike. The entire first match day had to be canceled. The new F-League season in Spain now starts this weekend
