These are the reasons for the abandonment of the match

At 1:0 for FC Schalke 04, the regional league match against Preußen Münster had to be abandoned. These are the reasons.

The regional league match between FC Schalke 04 and Preußen Münster was abandoned on Saturday afternoon when the score was 1:0 in favour of the Königsblauen. The decision was made by referee Marc Jäger at 3:15 pm. He had already interrupted the game for 25 minutes beforehand.

The reason for this was a thunderstorm that occurred in the vicinity of the stadium. As a result, the thunderstorm warning app was activated. The S04 officials informed the referee of this. The referee then decided to interrupt the game for 20 minutes. This is how long the warning app remains activated after an attack. However, since another thunderstorm occurred within this time, the interruption was also extended. In the meantime, the stadium was evacuated with a simultaneous downpour.

The warning app counts stops in the range of five to ten kilometres. After that, the system is triggered, or not. If something is triggered again in this time of 20 minutes, it updates itself and calculates down from 20 minutes again.

Schalke’s security officer Martin Krahe

The 600 or so spectators had to leave the Parkstadion and stay outside. This also affected the 500 or so Münster fans, who did not turn off their support in the meantime but increased it. In the end, it was clear that it would not go on here, although the rain had stopped in the meantime and the sun was showing itself again.

“The warning app counts attacks in the range of five to ten kilometres,” Schalke’s security officer Martin Krahe explained to RevierSport. “After that, the system is triggered, or not.” Krahe continued, “If something is triggered again in this time of 20 minutes, it updates itself and calculates down from 20 minutes again.” This is exactly what happened. Thus, there was no all-clear and the device calculated down the time again. That prompted referee Marc Jäger to call it off.

The game was not under a good star anyway. Because the fans of Preußen Münster made sure that the game had to start later. They arrived by train and were late. Therefore, the game was to start ten minutes later. A first warning already fell during this time, so that in the end the whistle was only blown 25 minutes later. However, there was no further thunderstorm during this time, so the whistle actually blew.

In the end, only 26 minutes could be played. Shortly before the interruption, the S04 took a 1:0 lead through Andreas Ivan with their second scoring chance. But nobody was interested afterwards.

It is not yet known when the game will be rescheduled.
