Contractless players may also be signed after 1 September (6pm). Some clubs already took advantage of this.
Everyone was looking at 1 September (6 p.m.) – new players could be signed in Germany until then.
Exception: players without contracts could still be signed. And across the leagues, the clubs were still making acquisitions in response to injuries or false starts.
SC Verl signed Tom Müller (previously of Preußen Münster) and Marcel Mehlem (previously of SC Paderborn). A player who was not re-signed by FC Schalke in the summer was also found.
Defender Timothée Kolodziejczak moved to FC Paris. And Niko Gießelmann, who had been linked with Schalke, joined second-division club Greuther Fürth after leaving Union Berlin.
The best-known stars who were without a contract and later found a club were certainly keeper Kasper Schmeichel, who did not extend his contract with OGC Nice and moved to RSC Anderlecht.
And Sergio Ramos, who went to Sevilla FC after leaving Paris St Germain.
