Fc Gütersloh has announced its next new signing following promotion to the Regionalliga West. He is currently already playing in the fourth division.
FC Gütersloh’s promotion to the Regionalliga West has been fixed since last weekend. While the team can play on the last four match days without any pressure for results, sporting director Rob Reekers will certainly have his hands full. The former professional has to put together a squad suitable for the fourth division next season to ensure that the team stays in the league.
The FCG has now signed another player who already knows the East Westphalians’ future division well. Patrik Twardzik is moving to the Heidewald from soon-to-be league rivals Rot Weiss Ahlen. Gütersloh announced the transfer this Thursday afternoon (11 May).
The 30-year-old is a central midfielder. He is the third new summer signing so far. Previously, the traditional club had signed Hendrik Lohmar (SC Wiedenbrück), who also has regional league experience, and the young Oberliga striker Lennard Wolf (Delbrücker SC).
“Patrik is at a very good footballing age and brings the necessary experience,” says coach Julian Hesse about the signing of Twardzik. “He is a very fine footballer who has his strengths in the technical area.”
The Czech-born player is a regular in the current season at Ahlen, where he has been under contract since summer 2021. He makes a total of 150 appearances in the Regionalliga (17 goals, 19 assists) – for Ahlen in the western division and for Germania Halberstadt and BFC Dynamo in the north-east.
Twardzik also played once in the 3rd division for Rot-Weiß Erfurt and in the Scottish second division for FC Livingston. The soon to be Gütersloh native trained with Hertha BSC and Scottish top club Celtic Glasgow, for whose professionals he never made an appearance. Next season, Twardzik is expected to help FCG stay in the league.
